From the 626 to China: Soccer Creating Opportunities Around the World

From the 626 to China! This summer, four of our athletes had the incredible opportunity to travel to China for a 10-day international soccer and cultural exchange. From competing against local high school teams to exploring Changsha and Urumqi, our players experienced a trip that went far beyond the soccer field. With the support of the City of Pico Rivera, Council Member Eric Lutz, and the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation, we were able to create an unforgettable experience centered around competition, culture, friendship, and the power of soccer to bring people together.

Summer Pickup: Eight Weeks of Free Soccer and Community

This summer, we brought the 626 together for eight weeks of free pickup soccer, welcoming around 300 unique local players ages 6–15 throughout the summer. Every Wednesday, players came together to compete, make new friends, learn from guest speakers and coaches, and most importantly, enjoy the game without the structure and pressure of traditional team soccer. These sessions gave players the freedom to be creative, express themselves, and simply play while building a stronger soccer community in the San Gabriel Valley.

Summer Soccer Camp: Bringing Our Community Together Through the Game

On July 29th, we brought 120 young players and their families together at La Puente High School for a free soccer camp featuring three one-hour sessions for players ages 6–15. From technical training and footwork to free Charly camp shirts, 20 pairs of donated cleats, an appearance from former Chivas and Mexican National Team player Martin “El Pulpo” Zúñiga, and an Acai Bowl giveaway from Bomberry, the day was made possible by an incredible group of community partners. More than anything, the camp showed us what can happen when our community comes together to create opportunities for local youth.

626 Fest: A New Tradition for the 626

626 Fest was more than a soccer tournament—it was a celebration of the San Gabriel Valley. On 6/26, we brought players, families, businesses, and community organizations together for a day of competition, culture, and connection. From custom jerseys featuring patches representing local cities to our Cultura Award, professional guest Ruben Ramos, and four age divisions battling for the 626 Fest Championship, the first-ever 626 Fest showed us the power of soccer to bring our community together. This is just the beginning of a new 6/26 tradition.
